Man mobbed for robbery attempt

TANGERANG: A man who allegedly tried to rob a woman motorist was assaulted by an angry mob who rushed to the scene upon hearing the victim's screams on Wednesday evening.

Berty, 32, a resident of the Maskota Mas housing complex in Cikokol, had parked her car in the parking lot of D'Best shopping mall on Jl. MH Thamrin, and had just opened the door when suddenly a man appeared. The man, who was later identified as Agus Marzuki, 25, asked for money and pointed a knife at her.

"But I shouted 'Thief', and the security officer who heard me did the same. The guy then ran away, but he had already injured my right hand," she said, adding that the would-be thief left her with a 5 cm-long wound.

A crowd then assembled and attacked the fleeing assailant, a resident of Panoman village, Pandeglang, Banten.

About 30 minutes later, the police came and took the suspect to Tangerang General Hospital.--JP
