Man may face jail for minding drugs

JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta District Court was asked yesterday
to sentence a 23-year-old man to one year in jail for failing to
report that his friend possessed 1.8 grams of heroin.

Prosecutor Agus Widodo said the defendant, Bakhtiar Alamsyah,
had been found guilty of violating Article 48 of Law No. 9/1979
on narcotics.

Bakhtiar committed a crime when he did not report his friend,
Randi, to police, Agus said.

Randi asked Bakhtiar, a resident of Kebun Jeruk, West Jakarta,
to keep a pack of cigarettes for him on July 3, the prosecutor
said.

The defendant tried to get rid of the pack when he realized it
contained heroin but he was arrested by police before he had a
chance, he said.

Presiding judge Maryatmo adjourned the trial until next week
to consider the sentence he will impose. (jun)
