Man kills brother over Rp 700,000

BOGOR (JP): Local police here named Ujang, 32, a resident of Kampung Rawai in Jonggol, as a wanted criminal for his alleged role in the killing of his own brother, Mamad, 40, on Sunday over a dispute of Rp 700,000 cash that Mamad owed him.

Unconfirmed reports said on Sunday evening that Ujang has been arrested by the police.

But Chief Corporal Sapoja B. Warman from the Jonggol police subprecinct said that the suspect was still at large.

According to Makmum, 47, the elder brother of both victim and suspect, Ujang and Mamad are both vendors at different locations.

Ujang sells rice in Cikalong Market, Cianjur, while Mamad sells vegetables in Langsang Market, Bogor. The two, he said, jointly rented a car for their businesses.

About a week ago, Mamad helped Ujang sell his rice but used the Rp 700,000 money to buy some vegetables. But when Ujang asked for the money, Mamad said the money was still with his helper at the market.

Upset, Ujang then went to see Mamad at 11 p.m. and stabbed him in the shoulder, through the lung and also in the back of the victim's head with a kitchen knife before running away, Makmun told reporters at the hospital.

The neighbors then took Mamad to the nearest hospital but he had already died. (21/09)
