Man killed over unclear motives

JAKARTA (JP): Dozens of unknown men mobbed a local resident of Cakung district in North Jakarta to death on Saturday over unclear reasons, a police report said.

The resident, Ahmad Ahyoto, 40, was sleeping in his house with his father Adam Ahyoto, 80, when suddenly a group of men carrying iron-sticks and swords, stormed the house.

They dragged Ahmad out of the house and beat him to death.

There was no clear motive for the murder.

"These men mobbed him, but there was nothing I could do to stop them," Adam said as quoted by Suara Pembaruan afternoon daily.

Ahmad died of a crushed skull and slash wounds to his entire body.

Adam said that after learning of his son's death, the men took off without taking anything. (dja)
