JAKARTA (JP): A man was beaten to death and another suffered from a cut wound in violence that took place in separate areas of the capital on Wednesday.

An unidentified man in his thirties was beaten to death when attempting to steal a motorbike in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta.

Residents of the neighborhood, who saw his attempt, approached him and beat him to death. Several cut wounds were found on his face and his body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue.

Separately, an 18-year-old student, Agus, suffered from a deep cut to his right hand during a robbery that took place in Pangkalan Asem, Senen district, Central Jakarta.

Agus was riding on a bus when a four-member gang armed with sharp weapons forced him to hand over his money and shoes. He tried to resist the robbery, but one of the gang members stabbed him with a machete in his hand before they got away.

The victim said there was a police officer nearby who did nothing. He was taken to hospital for treatment. (06)
