Man killed for suspicious behavior

SALATIGA, Central Java: A man suspected of stealing one kilogram of green beans was mobbed to death on Wednesday by local residents in Bandungan village, an officer said on Friday.

Salatiga Precinct Police chief Supt. Satria said the police had questioned two witnesses to murder of 42-year-old Pardi.

"The incident happened when a farmer, identified as Toat, saw Pardi in his garden and suspected that Pardi was there to steal his crops. The farmer then yelled thief...thief..., which immediately assembled local residents and triggered the assault," he said.

Satria said that the police would continue the investigation as there was a possibility that Pardi was not in the garden to steal Toat's green beans. (har/lup)
