Man jumps to death from 7th floor

JAKARTA (JP): A security officer was killed on Friday after he
tried escape a fire by jumping from the seventh floor of a
building at Jayabaya University in East Jakarta, an officer said.

East Jakarta Police chief Col. Hidayat Fabanyo identified the
victim as Eddy Komeng, 48, a security guard at the private
university.

Hidayat said officers had been assigned to probe the cause of
the fire.

"The case is still under investigation," he said.

Witnesses believe the fire started from a short circuit and
assumed that Eddy panicked when he saw smoke in the corridor and
decided to jump. (06)
