Man jailed for drug possession

TANGERANG(JP): The Tangerang District Court sentenced a 48-
year-old man to 18 months in prison on Thursday for the
possession of 0.3547 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal
methamphetamine).

The sentence handed down to the defendant, identified as Johan
Effendi, a resident of Jl. Kisamaun in Tangerang, was six months
less than what prosecutors had asked for.

Presiding judge Agus Budiarto said Johan had been found guilty
of violating Article 62 of Law No. 5/1997 on psychotropic drugs.

Johan was arrested in the early hours of Nov. 26 last year
after being pulled over by police for violating several traffic
signs. When the officers searched him, they found three packages
of shabu-shabu and some pipes used to smoke the drug. (41)
