Man gets 8 years in jail for murder

JAKARTA (JP): Murder defendant Aminuddin was sentenced to an eight-year jail term by a judge on Monday for the premeditated murder of his adopted son, Rendi, 3, on Jan. 2, this year.

Judge Poerwanto J.L. of the East Jakarta District Court said on Monday that prosecutor Patorang Halim had proven to the court that Aminuddin, a taxi driver, had been persuaded by his jealous second wife, Ratmi, 30, to strangle Rendi.

The sentence was much lighter than the 14-year jail term sought by the state.

Next Monday, the East Jakarta District Court is scheduled to pass its verdict on Aminuddin's second wife Ratmi.

Ratmi was reportedly jealous of Rendi, and hated him enough to convince her husband to do away with him.(ylt)
