Man dies in row over soccer field

JAKARTA (JP): A man died on Friday in a fight over the use of a soccer field in Jembatan Besi, Tambora district, West Jakarta.

The incident started when a group of youths arrived at a field to play soccer but found that it was occupied.

The people playing soccer at the time said they felt distracted by the youths and told them to leave. But instead of leaving, they mocked the players, according to Agus Anwar, the neighborhood chief.

One of the players, a Florinese, pulled out a machete and allegedly attacked Supri, whose friends then rushed him to Sumber Waras hospital.

Upon returning from the hospital, the youths pelted the Florinese's house with stones. They fled when the man, Zabidi, jumped out of the window clutching a sword.

Zabidi, 22, stumbled, hit his head and died. (01)
