Man busted with drugs and needle

JAKARTA (JP): Police detectives apprehended an alleged drug dealer during a street operation in the wee hours yesterday on Jl. Suprapto in Cempaka Putih.

Driving a red-metallic BMW sedan plate number BM 168 KS, the 28-year-old suspect, Andi, alias Kamir Santosa, was handcuffed after police found two bottles of amphetamine derivative shabu- shabu powder, 20 Ecstasy pills, 100 grams of Ecstasy powder, a set of mini-scales, a glass straw, a needle, five car registration documents, a sword and a pocket knife in his car, city police spokesman Lt. Col. Aritonang said.

A name card holder filled with cards bearing names and addresses of several important figures was also seized from the back seat of Andi's car.

"We also found three identification cards under his name with different addresses, on Jl. Tubagus Angke, West Jakarta, on Jl. Karang Anyar Utara, West Jakarta, and on Jl. Pluit Raya in Penjaringan, North Jakarta," Aritonang said.

When the officers asked him to pull his car over and show his identification card, Andi looked nervous and failed to show his driving license.

The officers then examined his car and noticed a pack of ID cards at Andi's wallet, he said.

Based on Andi's testimony, it is believed that he was a member of a widely operating drug dealer network.

"Therefore we hope to extract more information from him."

The suspect is currently detained at city police headquarters for further investigation. (edt)
