Man arrested over explosives

JAKARTA:Police said on Monday they had arrested another man for carrying explosives and detonators in East Nusa Tenggara on the weekend. The arrest of Murdiono followed the apprehension two weeks ago of a man and four women in East Kalimantan on similar charges.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said that Murdiono was believed to be in the same group as the five people arrested in Nunukan, East Kalimantan. They all bought the explosive materials from a dealer in Malaysia named Haji Abdul, he added. Aryanto said the same seller had also sold ammonium nitrate to a woman named Ika who carried the explosive material to Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"Murdiono admitted to buying the materials, which were made in India, along with detonators for two men named Haji Kadri and Haji Nurdin in Maumere (on Flores island)," Aryanto added. He said Murdiono claimed that the explosives were to be used for fishing. --JP
