Man arrested over dud dollars

JAKARTA (JP): Taman Sari Police officers arrested a man after he tried to exchange fake dollar banknotes worth US$500 at the foreign exchange counter of the Hotel Dusit Mangga Dua in West Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Taman Sari Police chief of detectives and intelligence First. Insp. Robert said the suspect, Heri, 30, a resident of Jl. Boding in Tangki, Taman Sari, came to the hotel at 2:30 p.m. and sought to change five US$100 banknotes

"As in any normal transaction, the teller, Atik, checked the authenticity of the dollar banknotes using a scanner. The banknotes turned out to be fake. This was then reported to us."

Robert added that the police were still interrogating Heri as to where he had obtained the counterfeit notes. (ylt)
