Man arrested for selling gun

JAKARTA (JP): Pancoran police in South Jakarta arrested a man attempting to sell a gun in a housing complex on Friday night.

Chief of the subprecinct, Asst. Supt. IGN. Susanto, said on Saturday that Mimin Ardianto, 22, was just about to sell the gun to a man set up by police.

"Then our undercover officer gave some money to the man, who promised him that he could find a gun," Susanto said, adding that the man then contacted Mimin to meet at the Kalibata Indah housing complex at about midnight.

When the two were just about to make the deal, several police officers appeared and arrested the two, Susanto said.

Police confiscated a .22 caliber revolver along with three bullets from Mimin.

Susanto said that police were still investigating where Mimin got the gun and any possibility that Mimin had carried out other gun transactions.

"Mimin is only paid to guard a clinic on Jl. Jambu Blok P No. 7 at the complex run by a doctor, who lives in Bekasi," Susanto said, adding that police had yet to find out if the gun belonged to the doctor. (jaw)
