AMBON, Maluku: The Maluku Prosecutor's Office has decided to
fast-track the treason cases against activists of the Maluku
Sovereignty Front (FKM).
"Our target is to bring the suspects before the court as soon
as possible. But it all depends on the police investigation into
the case," chief of the prosecutor's office, Masri Djinin, told
The Jakarta Post on Saturday.
He said his office had formed a team of 35 prosecutors to
handle the treason cases, which followed days of rioting that
left 40 people killed and hundreds other injured.
The office has named 34 alleged members of the FKM, which is
linked to the South Maluku Republic (RMS) separatist group, as
suspects. --JP
