Maluku councillors named graft suspects

AMBON, Maluku: Thirty six councillors in Southeast Maluku regency were officially named suspects on Monday for their alleged involvement in a graft case between 2002 and 2003.

Septinus Hematang, the deputy chief of the Maluku Prosecutor's Office, said that the 36 councillors, including council speaker Steven Tapotubun, were named suspects for an insurance policy fraud worth between Rp 30 million (US$3,333) and Rp 40 million per councillor. -- JP
