Maluku Brimob get AK-101 rifles

AMBON, Maluku: To replace the aging weapons of its Mobile Brigade personnel in Maluku, the National Police dispatched some 200 AK-101 rifles for officers on duty in the province, the deputy chief of the Maluku Police, Sr. Comr. Tommy Yacobus, said on Thursday.

Tommy said the old rifles were in very poor condition and often caused troubles for their users. The old rifles were produced by the Army's ammunitions and weapons company PT Pindad.

The new rifles arrived two weeks ago aboard the KM Tasikmas, he said.

According to Tommy, the Russian-made weapons were cheaper than the old SS-1, which cost the same as two AK-101 rifles. (49)
