Malpractice victims protest medical bill

JAKARTA: Over 100 people claiming to be victims of malpractice held a protest in front of the Ministry of Health on Wednesday to protest the bill on medical practice, arguing that the bill would only protect the interests of doctors, not the patients.

"It is funny that doctors' arrogance is supported by the government through the Ministry of Health and has created a public perception that the bill already accommodates the interests of patients," said field coordinator Aulia Taswin of the Legal Aid Institute for Health (LBH Kesehatan).

The protesters demanded that the government draft a bill on patient protection, rather than the medical practice bill. -- Antara
