Malpractice case ready for trial

JAKARTA: The police have submitted two file cases on hospitals involving alleged malpractice to the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office, but only one has been declared ready for prosecution.

Jakarta Police chief of detectives Sr. Comr. Mathius Salempang said that the prosecutors were now working on a case against Pondok Indah Hospital, South Jakarta.

"The hospital allegedly left the placenta inside the body of a patient, identified as Debora, after surgery to remove it," he said on Friday.

So far, the police have received 35 reports of negligence on the part of hospitals or doctors.

He said the detectives were working together with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) in examining the cases. -- JP
