Mall marks birthday with medical aid

JAKARTA: The management of Taman Anggrek shopping mall in West Jakarta donated Rp 80 million ($8,988) to help needy TB patients through the HOPE Indonesia Foundation, in conjunction with the mall's 8th anniversary, which fell on Aug. 27.

The donation was made to the foundation's Adopt A Lung program, which ran from June 25 through Aug. 25.

Mall visitors were encouraged to "adopt" a TB patient by volunteering to help patients take their medication and treatment or by joining HOPE's fund-raising team.

The funds will be used to disseminate information on the disease, provide free treatment for needy patients and establish a mobile clinic, Mal Taman Anggrek spokeswoman Dessy Tanumihardjo said in a release made available on Tuesday. -- JP
