Malioboro values vendors: Survey

YOGYAKARTA: The Indonesian Muslim Students Association (HMI) and activists of the Citra Mandiri Foundation urged the local administration not to evict the ubiquitous street vendors from Jl. Malioboro, the city's most popular avenue.

Citing their recently conducted survey, the activists said 93 percent of the residents opposed the administration's plan to relocate the vendors, Momon Khairussalam of HMI said on Thursday.

The survey was conducted between Aug. 1 and Aug. 5, and involved 411 respondents from among various groups of people including students, vendors and ordinary residents. (44/edt)
