Malaysian, Thai deported

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The local immigration office has deported a Malaysian and a Thai for abusing their visas, head of the office Guntoro Hermanuadi told Antara Wednesday.

Guntoro said his staff nabbed the Malaysian, identified as Johari bin Abu Samah, and the Thai, Athok, for overstaying.

He said the province's immigration authorities were closely monitoring foreigners who stayed in Indonesia either as tourists or workers.

The office had collected data on expatriates who worked for various companies in the city, according to Guntoro.

"Those who violate immigration laws will be facing punitive measures, including imprisonment and fines, regardless of their country of origin," Guntoro said. (amd)
