Malaysia to host RI vocational students

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Several firms in Malaysia are prepared to host 90 vocational students from South Kalimantan province, an official has said.

"The firms expressed their readiness when we visited them recently in Kuala Lumpur," said Iriansyah, an official with the South Kalimantan Education Office.

The visit was made last August, when Iriansyah and other officials with the South Kalimantan province met with executives of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce. The Indonesian officials were also given a tour of some firms there.

The visit resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), in order to allow the 90 South Kalimantan vocational students to join an on-the-job training program for six months in various firms in Malaysia next year.

The training program would be conducted by firms in various fields, including electronics, auto repair shops and hotel management. One of the firms willing to host the Indonesian students was Pelita Catering Management Service in Pahang, Malaysia. -- Antara
