Malay Festival for other ethnic groups

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The festival of Malay culture, to be held here on July 29 to Aug. 3, will not exclude the participation of people from other ethnic groups, its organizer said.

Zainul Aris was quoted by Antara as saying on Saturday that the festival is meant as a campaign to preserve the local Malay culture, as well as to attract tourists.

The festival is expected to attract participants from people of Malay culture at home and in neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand.

Participants who registered from outside of the North Sumatra province included those from Jambi, South Sumatra, Jakarta, Aceh, Riau and West Sumatra. (swe)
