Malaria affects southern Sukabumi

BANDUNG: Malaria has spread in the southern part of Sukabumi regency since January this year, infecting 461 residents and killing three of them.

Head of West Java Health Office Yudhi Prayuda said on Wednesday that malaria cases were first discovered in January in Simpenan subdistrict, but had spread since then to neighboring Lengkong and Pelabuhan Ratu.

A malaria outbreak affected 4,258 residents in the same area last year and killed 44 of them. -- JP
