Makro opens store in S. Kalimantan

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Giant retailer Makro Indonesia opened its 17th store here in a bid to expand business targeting small and middle businesses.

Makro president director Simon Collins said during the opening of the store that Banjarmasin was perfect for the expansion because it hosts small and medium businesses.

The retailer will also expand its market in Yogyakarta, Bekasi and Surakarta, all on Java island.

"Makro aims at developing small and middle businesses in Indonesia. Half of our products on the shelves come from these businesses and therefore we must sell them at low prices so they are affordable for the public," Collins said. -- JP
