Makassar fights anthrax virus

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: To help prevent the spread of anthrax disease here, the Makassar Health Office has vaccinated since last week 800 cows in Tamangapa here. More cows in the area will be vaccinated soon, said the head of Food Resilience and Maritime Affairs with the Makassar administration, Syaiful Saleh.

The massive vaccination drive is taking place following the recent deaths of 10 cows from anthrax, Saleh said on Tuesday. Besides vaccination measures, the government has also ordered that slaughterhouses across the city be cleaned up. -- Antara
