Mails stuck in Denpasar

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The local branch of PT Pos Indonesia, the state-owned post office, has decided to charter a special plane to transport approximately half a ton of mail for delivery to the province which has been piling up in Denpasar.

Tenan P. Widodo, who heads the branch office, said he was forced to charter the plane because the state carrier Merpati Nusantara, which has a regular service to Kupang, could not handle the volume of mail from Denpasar due to the limited cargo space in its planes.

Tenan noted that Merpati operates small planes for its services between Denpasar and Kupang, and that there was hardly any cargo space available for mail.

He added that in the past some mail has been transported by ships from Denpasar to Kupang.

Mail bound for East Timor also goes through Kupang, according to Antara. (emb)
