Maids demand salary hike

YOGYAKARTA: The current five-day working week try out at government offices has prompted many domestic helpers in this city to demand hikes in their salaries.

The try out scheme entails longer working hours on week days, and this means that maids, particularly those who do not live in, must stay longer hours to wait for the return of their employers.

Some maids have already asked for hikes in their wages, according to the Antara news agency.

The wages of live-out maids in the city currently ranges between Rp 25,000 ($11) and Rp 30,000. (pwn)
