Maid robbed of 5-gram necklace

JAKARTA (JP): Eight unidentified men broke into a house on Jl. Pembangunan Dalam, in Gambir district, Central Jakarta, yesterday and made away only with a 5-gram gold necklace.

A police sergeant at the Central Jakarta Police precinct said the men arrived on four motorcycles and entered the house at about 11 a.m.

"One of the men threatened a maid in the house with a screwdriver and grabbed her necklace," the sergeant said.

He said the house owner, Valentino, who witnessed the incident, immediately went upstairs and shouted for help.

The men, who tried to find other valuables in the house, decided to leave because the area was insecure for them as many pedestrians were passing by the house on the street, he said.

Many neighbors, who heard Valentino's cry, went to the house, but the robbers had already fled, he said. (jun)
