Maid commits suicide

BANDUNG, West Java: An 18-year-old maid committed suicide Saturday after her request for a wage rise was rejected, Antara quoted police as saying here.

The maid, Lasmini, who worked for a midwife named Yulia on Jl. Gempol Sari, reportedly hanged herself with a piece of raffia.

The teenager who hailed from Kutowinangun in Central Java was found at 10 a.m. in her room by Samuel, 35, the midwife's son.

Lasmini had worked for Yulia for two years and had asked that her monthly wage of Rp 50,000 (US$6.45) be raised to Rp 75,000, police said after questioning the midwife.
