Maid appeals murder verdict in Singapore

JAKARTA: Purwanti Pardji, an Indonesia teenaged maid sentenced to life for murder in Singapore, has appealed to a court in the neighboring country, an official said on Wednesday.

Fachry Sulaiman, the consular head of the Indonesia embassy in Singapore, said on Wednesday that the legal process may take three to four months, assuming that the court grants her a lower sentence.

Purwanti escaped the death sentence in the murder case of Har Chit Heang, the father of her employer. She was sentenced late last month, just days after another Indonesian maid was sentenced to life for another similar case. -- Antara
