Magazine patron resigns

SEMARANG, Central Java: Patron of the Vokal student magazine, Karseno, decided to resign yesterday in protest of the inclusion of an interview with novelist Pramoedya Ananta Toer.

"I resign as the patron of the magazine because it has been too daring and violated the existing regulations," he said.

Karseno, chairman of the IKIP PGRI teacher's college foundation here, said that his resignation letter had been sent to the magazine editorial department and the rector of the college which publishes the publication.

Vokal Editor-in-Chief Nurul Qoiriyah said that the resignation would not affect the publication of the magazine.

Pramoedya is a writer associated with the banned Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) for his participation in the party's cultural organization in the 60s. (har)
