Maesa to hold sports tourney
JAKARTA (JP): Maesa, the oldest sports organization in Indonesia, will stage a national tournament called "Maesa Paskah 2000" to commemorate the tournament's 76th anniversary and the Easter holiday. The tournament will run from April 8 to April 23 here.
The tournament will feature eight sports -- bridge, badminton, boxing, fencing, golf, karate, soccer and tennis -- said tournament spokesperson Joan Henuhili-Raturandang in a media release.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Jappy Wawolumaya, expressed hope that the tournament would help national athletes to test their skills prior to the 15th National Games (PON) in Surabaya in June.
He also hoped that the tournament could unite athletes across the country and that many young athletes would emerge from the event. (ivy)
