MACRO entry denied
On Nov. 19, 1994 my wife went shopping at MACRO SURABAYA as she does every month. As always, at the entrance she handed over our MACRO SURABAYA card, with my name on it and her ID card. This time things didn't happen as usual. She wasn't allowed to enter because, according to the employee, she didn't have an authorization letter from me, as the cardholder. In other words, as the card is in my name, she didn't have the right to enter the store.
We later went there together and asked to see the manager. The person introduced us to a woman who, she said, was her manager. This manager explained to us that those were their regulations, that even as my wife she can't use my card.
We were disappointed, why was it then that they allowed her into the store before? I remember some time ago, they let me in with my secretary's card, no questions asked. When we mentioned this, the woman said that this was an accident which just happened by chance.
We felt we were being treated as if we were there to steal or to ask for charity, when all we wanted to do was shop. I know many expatriate friends use their husbands' cards to go to MACRO SURABAYA and nobody has ever stopped them. I think what happened to my wife, who is an Indonesian, was unfair.
