Luxury car confiscated
JAKARTA (JP): City police detectives have confiscated a black Jaguar sedan from a businessman living on Jl. Kwini, Central Jakarta, a police source said on Thursday.
"It was taken early this week from a man identified only as Soni from Jl. Kwini. It had something to do with tax fraud or something ... I can't say further," said the officer, who asked for anonymity.
According to city police chief of traffic Col. Nyoman Sukesna, the license number B 1357 MD used by the Jaguar officially belonged to another car.
"The number belongs to a 1989 red Toyota Corona sedan. The number was issued on May 15, 1989," Nyoman said.
"The owner of the car and its registration number is PT Unilever Indonesia. The address is on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, Kav. B-9 in South Jakarta."
Nyoman urged all city residents to check the authenticity of car documents and car registration numbers with city traffic police.
"Within three seconds we can check whether the car or registration number is stolen or not. Just call (021) 523-4042." (ylt)
