Lunar eclipse on Wednesday
BANDUNG, West Java: The Bosscha Observatory announced that people across the country would be able to witness a partial eclipse of the moon on Wednesday, Antara reported.
The partial eclipse of the moon -- the last event of its kind in the 20th century -- will be seen in Indonesia, observatory chairman Moedji Raharto said here on Sunday.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the United States predicted that people living in the eastern part of Indonesia would be able to witness the natural phenomenon at 3:56 a.m., while those in the western part of the country would be able to see it between 5:22 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
The lunar eclipse on Wednesday will be the 61st since Oct. 3, 1917. The next lunar eclipse from the Saros 119 series is expected to occur on Mar 25, 2396.
The lunar eclipse will also be visible in Australia, China, Japan, Papua New Guinea, the southern coastal area of the United States and the Pacific ocean. (edt)
