Low-income residents to receive training

BOGOR: As many as 244 low-income people in Bogor municipality are undergoing training in various skills in order to help them improve their standard of living.

Municipality spokesman Zaenal Arifin said on Friday that the residents came from 34 subdistricts and were trained in skills including sewing, hairdressing, shoemaking, printing, carpentry and electronic repairs.

Organized by the municipal manpower and social agency in 11 districts, the training would last 42 days beginning on Friday.

Agency head Jani Permadhi said that the participants were expected to apply their skills so that they would be able to obtain income for their families.

"Their skills from the training will be meaningless if they have no desire to apply what they learn," Jani said. --JP
