Low-cost apartments ready by October
The head of the City Housing Office, Ongky Sukasah, said that former residents of the Tanah Tinggi, Central Jakarta, fire site will soon be able to inhabit the new low-cost apartments being built by the city administration.
"Construction of three apartment blocks are almost finished so I expect residents can move in by October," he said.
The Tanah Tinggi slum area was ravaged by a fire last year leaving hundreds of the residents homeless.
"I believe everyone can be accommodated since many of the residents have moved to another area," Ongky said as quoted by Pos Kota yesterday.
Central Jakarta mayor Abdul Kahfi has said that upon completion, the former Tanah Tinggi residents will be given priority in occupying the new apartments. (mds)
