Love multiples, not divides

As an Australian who has lived in Indonesia for over 20 years, I found the article Duel citizenship urged for mixed couples very interesting.

Ramli Hutabarat's comment that "It is about identity. One can have a 'split personality' because of dual citizenship" needs to be addressed.

Believe me, I have ample room for both countries in my heart. When parents welcome another child into their family, their love is not divided but multiplies. I have found that love for both countries does not divide but multiplies. The same situation would apply to someone who, for example, is a mix of Batak and Javanese. The melding of cultures does not create a "split personality" but promotes better understanding.

The sad truth is that the present laws discriminate against women and children and I pray that the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights protects those who are unjustly treated.
