Love and democracy

Whether I agree or not, I respect Mr. B.M. Menon's views in his letter Fully-fledged democracy (Jan. 23, 1997). The discussion could go on forever. However, I find his conclusion in bad taste.

When did acceptance of India as a democratic country become a barometer of an Indian's love for his country?
