Loudest cheer

BUSAN, South Korea: Sitting side by side on Haeundae beach, supporters of Indonesia and Kazakhstan were engaged in a war of chants, with each vying to outdo the other in providing support for their men's beach volley teams on Tuesday.

Every time the Kazakhs chanted "Kazakhstan", there were instant replies of "Indonesia" during the match between the Indonesia 2 team of Andy Ardiansyah and Supriadi and the Kazakhstan 1 team of Pavel Zabuslayev and Dmitriy Vorobyev.

The Indonesian team also received support from a group of Koreans playing traditional percussion instruments.

There were also Busan residents deployed by the Indonesian honorary consul in Busan, Kim Soo-il, ranging from school children to adults waving red-and-white flags.

But the cheers really reached a crescendo when Indonesia 2 beat Kazakhstan 1 2-0.--JP
