Lopa, a man of integrity

May I join the national sorrow at the untimely death of a
respected and highly valued figure in Indonesia, the late
attorney general Baharuddin Lopa. Unfortunately I did not know
him personally. His passing obviously leaves an immeasurable gap
in the ranks of the Indonesian government.

Not knowing that he was out of the country, I had intended on
the very day of the news of his death, to try to make contact
with him, but sadly it was not to be. He was well-known for his
integrity and struggle for justice and human rights. He was a man
of empathy.

I extend to his family and loved ones my sincere sympathy. He
will surely be missed by all caring people.
