Looted goods confiscated
BOGOR (JP): Police have confiscated several items believed to be parts of those looted during last week's rioting in Jakarta brought by seven train passengers to Bogor, an officer said yesterday.
Bogor Police Precinct chief Lt. Col. Edmond Ilyas said that the goods were confiscated at the Bogor railway station on Saturday and Sunday.
"The confiscated goods consist of five carpets, two pairs of scales and electronic products," he said.
"The goods were confiscated because their owners claimed to have bought them from Jakartans but they could not show the receipts," he said.
Edmond explained that the seven people were immediately released after their identities were recorded. "We do not have any legal basis to detain them. Nobody could show us that their goods were looted goods and moreover they were not caught red- handed doing the looting," he added.
Meanwhile, Col. Abubakar, head of the Bogor Police, said that four people were currently being detained for their alleged involvement in pelting stones on shops in the city.
"The four detainees, identified as Teguh Mulyadi, 18; Tedi Hermawan, 25; Ahmad Jaelani, 17, and Wandi alias Ahmad, 23, are all jobless," Abubakar said. (24/hhr)
