Local runners win cross country

JAKARTA (JP): Local runners sped to a double victory yesterday in the Arafura Youth Games' cross country at the Somba Opu Fort in Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi.

M. Idris won the men's 5,000-meter gold medal in 15 minutes and 14 seconds. East Timorese runner, Yosef, clocked 15:27 to take the silver medal ahead of another South Sulawesi runner, Suardi, who ran 15:30.

The three Australian runners managed to come only 16th, 17th and 18th in the 25-man event.

Sri Wahyuni led the host team's clean sweep in the women's 3,000m. She won the gold medal in 10:14, followed by her team mates, Hasnah and Yancen, who clocked 10:22 and 10:22.6 respectively. (yan)
