Local PPP chief resigns

CILACAP, Central Java: Local chief of the United Development Party (PPP) resigned yesterday because of a disappointing election outcome.

Ahmad Mujibudin, a candidate for the local legislative body for the 1998-2003 period, said he would focus on his Islamic boarding school after a month had passed, due to his election campaign activities.

The PPP won seven out of 10 targeted seats at the provincial legislative body. Mujibudin topped the PPP's list of candidates.

Secretary of the regional election committee, Mohammad Sodik, said Mujibudin was the only one of 40 legislative candidates to officially resign. (wah)
