Local govt firm boss jailed for graft

JAMBI: Former managing director of the local government enterprise PT Jambi Indoguna International, Alven Stony, has been sentenced to one-and-a-half years in prison by the Jambi district court for graft.

He was found guilty of misappropriating company funds causing losses loss to the state of Rp 5.6 billion (US$602,000). The sentence on Monday was more lenient than the five-year term demanded by prosecutors.

Alven said he would appeal his case to a higher court because he did not feel in the least bit guilty.

"The one responsible for the collapse of the company is Chalik Saleh, chief commissioner of the company and secretary of the Jambi provincial administration, because he had given guarantee for using the funds. I'm only a victim," Alven said. --JP
