Loafing officials get crew cuts

BANDA ACEH, Aceh (JP): Don't get caught napping on the job or you could become bald!

That is probably the lesson learned by four civil servants who were caught relaxing in a coffee shop during official working hours.

The four men were rounded up and their heads shaved during a National Discipline Movement operation in Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, last week.

Eight students who played hooky also endured the same punishment.

"I hope the Acehnese people become more disciplined in their daily lives," chief of Banda Aceh Military District Lt. Col. Muhammad Hadis said.

Antara reported that coffee shops have been deserted over the last few days following the Armed Forces-led operation.

Security officers threatened to send undisciplined people to jail if the persuasive approach failed to change their behavior. (prb)
