Listen to third world voice

American chief negotiator Charlene Barshefsky was not a popular figure in Seattle. Her tactics and tough talk did not bring about the best of deals. It turned WTO members off. It is a good lesson for her and the U.S. that developing countries are not going to give their trade concessions lying down. Since 1994, some of these countries have opened up their markets, which have benefited the rich and cost them dearly. When the trade negotiations continue in the spring in Geneva, the voices of nearly 100 developing countries must be heard. Otherwise, there will continue to be deadlock, as in Seattle. ...
