Lisa, Winarni perform poorly in SEAG selection

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia's Olympic medal-winning women's weightlifters Lisa Rumbewas and Winarni performed poorly on Saturday at the National Weightlifting Invitation, which also served as a selection for the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Olympic silver medalist Lisa, competing in the 53-kilogram division, only managed to lift a total of 107.5 kilograms.

She lifted 107.5 kilos in the clean and jerk, 2.5 kilos more than she lifted at the Olympics, but she failed on her three attempts to lift 77.5 kilos in the snatch.

At the Olympics, Lisa managed to lift a total of 185 kilos; 105 kilos in the clean and jerk and 80 kilos in the snatch.

Sri Indriani, who won the Olympic bronze medal in the same weight class as Lisa, won Saturday's event by lifting a total of 180 kilos. Indriani managed to lift 80 kilos in the snatch and 100 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Isauna finished second with a total lift of 150 kilos. She lifted 65 kilos in the snatch and 85 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Winarni, who took the Olympic bronze medal in the 58-kilogram division, also performed poorly on Saturday.

She lifted a total of 180 kilos, with 75 kilos in the snatch and 105 kilos in the clean and jerk. The result was far from her effort at the Olympics, where she lifted 112 kilos in the clean and jerk and 90 kilos in the snatch for a total of 202 kilos.

Novita also lifted a total of 180 kilos on Saturday, with 100 kilos in the clean and jerk and 80 kilos in the snatch. Dewi trailed in third place with a total lift of 142.5 kilos after lifting 65 kilos in the snatch and 77.5 kilos in the clean and jerk.

Lisa's coach Lukman expressed his disappointment with his athlete's result.

"She not only lacked power but she also lost her motivation to compete. I do not understand why she turned up like this after the Olympics," Lukman said as quoted by Antara.

He said Lisa only trained for 19 days prior to the event on Saturday.

Winarni's coach Imron Rosadi also said his lifter was not properly prepared for the event, pointing out Winarni just got married late last year.

"She has yet to reach her peak form. If this is to select the lifters (to the SEA Games), I have nothing to say," Imron was quoted by Antara as saying.

Indonesian Weightlifting, Powerlifting and Bodybuilding Association (PABBSI) chairman Dharma Surya said the invitation was staged to evaluate the SEA Games decentralized training programs, which have been underway since September.

"This is to select lifters based on their training results in order to avoid like-and-dislike judgments," he said. (yan)
